Beetlejuice layered margarita

The dramatic red-to-clear gradient is created by layering grenadine under a classic lime margarita — no food dye needed. It looks spooky and fun, but it’s made with real ingredients and has the balanced flavor of a proper margarita.

Even better: it takes just a few minutes to make and requires zero bartending skills.

Why You’ll Love This Drink

  • Layered look without complicated technique

  • Just a few simple ingredients

  • Party-worthy and Pinterest-pretty

  • Easy to scale for a crowd

  • Fun without being overly sweet

Notes

Tips for the Best Layered Look
  • Pour slowly. Gravity and density do the work.
  • Grenadine always goes first. It’s heavier than the margarita.
  • A spoon or large ice cube helps control the pour.

Beetlejuice Margarita Variations

  • Pitcher Version: Multiply ingredients and shake in batches. Add grenadine to each glass individually when serving.

  • Spooky Salt Rim: Mix flaky sea salt with a tiny amount of activated charcoal.

  • Glitter Pour: Add edible shimmer dust to the margarita layer for a “haunted fog” effect.

  • Smoky Mezcal Twist: Swap half (or all) of the tequila for mezcal.

  • Zero-Proof Version: Use non-alcoholic tequila and orange syrup instead of triple sec.

Storage

The Beetlejuice Margarita is best served immediately, but the margarita base (without grenadine) can be premixed up to 24 hours in advance and stored sealed in the refrigerator.
